I have all the symptoms of Bacterial Vaginosis (white discharge, fishy smell..), but I have had two swabs both of which have come back negative for it. I have also had the usual antibiotics which hasn't worked. Has anyone heard of this before, or have any ideas as to what's wrong with me? My doctor doesn't take me seriously because I am quite young (19), and is very unhelpful.

Wow, your doctor sounds pretty unresponsive -- your concerns are totally valid, since unpleasant-smelling discharge is always worth investigating, and for her/him to put you off simply by saying that it's not being caused by BV seems inappropriate to me!

Is there any way for you to see a different health care provider, one who might be more responsive?  If not, I would suggest contacting your doctor again and explaining that you're still concerned about the symptoms you're experiencing and would like her/him to investigate further so that you can get the proper treatment and start feeling better.

There are also some at-home remedies you could try that are recommended for treating both yeast infections and bacterial vaginosis, but are also effective against general vaginal infections.  One is boric acid -- following that link will take you to the Vulvapedia, where there's lots of information on how to use boric acid.  Another is acidophilus, which you can ingest in capsule form or by eating many types of yogurt; you can also insert acidophilus capsules or plain, unsweetened yogurt into the vagina itself --  this Go Ask Alice! Q&A does a great job of explaining how acidophilus works to help restore the natural bacterial balance of the vagina, if you are curious.

But I would suggest trying to get a second medical opinion in addition to any home treatment -- this sounds like something that a professional should evaluate.  Smiley

Best of luck!  I hope you're able to get things figured out soon.

Thanks a lot!
I'll give those a try.
